Follow one real piece of work
Take a recent enquiry and follow it from arrival to completion. Where did information get copied? Who decided the next step? Which missing detail caused someone to stop and ask? A real example is often more useful than an idealised process diagram.
Define the next owner
Every handoff needs an owner, an input and a clear completion condition. For an enquiry, that might mean a validated brief assigned to the person preparing the proposal. If the brief is incomplete, the process needs a defined way to request the missing information.
Build the exception path
Document what should happen when a source is unavailable, a client changes scope or a payment event arrives twice. Decide which actions can proceed under an established rule and which require someone to make a decision.
Test the whole journey
Use representative cases, including incomplete and repeated inputs. Check the result in the receiving system and measure the time people still spend correcting it. Expand the workflow when the evidence shows it is reliable.
This perspective is a practical framework, not a client case study. The right scope depends on the specific business and available evidence.
